wineries that can be visited to taste some of the most famous
Argentine wines. On the way to the Andes Mountain Range it
is posible to visit Uspallata, 95 km away, and the termal
streams of Villavicencio, whose rich and healthy mineral water
is bottled and distributed all over the country. From El Balcon,
an amazing natural amphitheater where Darwin found fósil
speciments of araucaria, a breathtaking scenery is dominated
by the Andes highest peaks where the condor nest: the Tupungato
(6800m), the Mercedario (6770m) and the Aconcagua (6959m),
the highest mountain in the Americas. To the north, the statue
of Christ marks Paso de la Cumbre and the túnel that
leads to Chile.From Mendoza to the south, 2250 m above sea
level, lies the Valley of Las Leñas, the most modern
ski resort in the country, with 40 ski slopes (alpine, extreme
and cross-country). Mendoza is a paradise for adventure tourism,
in the form of hang-gliding in the mountains, canoeing and
windsurfing in dams and lagoons, rafting along its rivers,
trekking, climbing, mountaineering and horse riding, fishing
salmon and pejerrey.
