A nice village in the province of Santa Cruz,
El Calafate is situated just 50 km away of the Perito Moreno
Glacier a real ice river some 3 km wide and 50 m high that
flows down from the Continental ice to the so-called Iceberg
channel in Argentino Lake. Together with twelve other glaciers,
they make up the large and imposing ice and snow floating
masses of Los Glaciares National Park, one of the great attractions
of Argentina, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. Sailing
the Argentino Lake among white and blue icebergs, the Upsala
glacier, and after a 1.5 km walk from Onelli bay, the glaciers
Onelli, Bolado and Agassiz are all beautiful soghts not to
be missed. Just one thousand meters from the main avenue of
El Calafate is the Nimes Lagoon Fauna Reserve, with a large
number of flamingoes, swans, ducks and other birds. Eight
kilometers away, the Gualicho Caves sep century-old rock paintings
discovered during the first explorations in Patagonia. The
Roca lake, known for its abundace of trout, is 53 km from
El Calafate and a privileged point of observation of Torres
del Paine, a mountain located in the National Park named after
it in Chile.Lake tours and trekking on the glaciers offer
the opportunity to experience unique sensations and all the
possibilities for adventure tourism: mountaineering, mountain
